Koloale 2 – KOSSA 0

The deadlock was broken seven minutes into the second half with beach soccer international, Joe Luwi, sending the opener past Severino Aefi. Ian Paia extended the lead 16 minutes later with his trademark burst and shot to goal.
Koloale coach, Gideon Omokirio put the victory down to an effective use of proactive defending and keeping their opponents under pressure.
“This was no easy win for us – KOSSA had two wins behind them so they were a real danger for us. However, we kept our game plan and put the KOSSA backline under pressure so that their attackers got very little of the ball,” says Omokirio.
Severino Aefi was at his best for KOSSA but the heroics of the veteran goalkeeper could not save his team from their demise against the ‘men in green’. KOSSA key forward George Suri was cut off from his midfield and did not score in match for the first time this season.
In more than one way the battle between Koloale and KOSSA was a battle between the coaches, Omokirio and Moli. Omokirio had trained and worked under the mentorship of Moli so was well aware of the strength of the KOSSA side, however, the Koloale coach said that he did not put too much thought to it.
“For me it was a game of football and I had a job to in managing my team to get a win. I have a lot of respect for Moli and learned a lot from him – of course, one has to be focussed when coming up against a coach of his experience and mastership,” Omokirio says.
The win takes Koloale tally to 12 points, five behind Solomon Warriors who are enjoying a break this weekend courtesy of a bye in the fixtures.
“Right now we are comfortable with where we are going. We just want to keep the momentum going so we challenge for the title this season – I think that it our objective,” Omokirio says.
Koloale will play Hana this coming weekend and close before the Christmas break with a catch up match against Malaita Kingz.
