Western United 0 – KOSSA 2

After thrashing Real Kakamora 8-0 last weekend, Western United were hoping to push clear of the top of the table by 3 points but KOSSA, who won the are the champions of the Honiara Football Association (HFA) league had other ideas.
The result sends KOSSA to second place and Western United still lead but they are vulnerable of being overrun either by Marist or Solomon Warriors who are hot on their tail. Both Western United and KOSSA have now tasted all ends of the spectrum with a win, a loss and a draw from four matches played leaving Marist and Solomon Warriors as the only undefeated clubs in the competition so far.
It was vivid from the outset that Western United were going to have problems as KOSSA opened in threatening fashion with Harrison Mala testing Shadrack Ramoni after only 30 seconds. Mala broke past the Western United defence with his pace but could not hit the cross with enough power and Ramoni recovered.
Wanefai handed KOSSA the lead after four minutes after the ball was lost Freddie Kini just outside the 18 yard box and Coleman Makau slid it behind the defensive for the winger to finish. Benjamin Totori and Gagame Feni, both had fair chances of equalising for Western United before the break but KOSSA’s backline was able to contain them.
KOSSA were even more menacing in the second half and could have grabbed the buffer goal through Mala and Obed Ofea with attempts just after the break. Ofea hit the post from a tight angle after beating the goalkeeper.
Felani’s made sure his attempt got the job done for KOSSA with a brilliant 25 yard run that saw him beat three defenders and rounding past Ramoni before ushering the ball into the back of the net.
KOSSA will take on Marist in their next match while Western United are line up against Malaita Kingz.
