West Honiara 1 – Marist 1

The first half of the match was goalless but it was West Honiara who enjoyed better possession and were backed by a crowd who in typical fashion was rooting for the underdog. Marist tried to employ their quick passes but the pressure on their backline from Peter Kala and Malcom Evo was unrelenting.
The second half opened with a shocker when Evo put West Honiara in front after some poor defending from the Marist back four. The cross came in from the corner and dropped inside the box the first clearance failed and Evo pounced when all the defenders were looking at the ball wondering who was going to clear it.
Staring down the face of an embarrassing defeat, Marist regrouped and went on the search for goals against their tiring opposition. The equaliser came twenty minutes before time from a header by Kiko Vinivo who beat Polycarp Bonave by aiming for the far post.
Despite their efforts Marist were fighting against time and West Honiara were content to finish with a point and were happy to defend till the final whistle.
