Bilikiki Challenge kicks off this weekend

This was confirmed by the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) competitions department today. This follows a second postponement of the competition last week due to staffing issues. The coordinator for the event, Gideon Omokirio, left the country on Friday and this forced SIFF to reschedule the event.
The SIFF competitions department reiterated through a spokesperson, Joseph Boso, today that the event will go ahead this weekend.
“The Bilikiki Challenge will take place this weekend as we cannot afford any more delays,” Boso said. “Much interest has been generated from the teams and they are looking forward to play.”
Eight teams have sent in their registration forms but several are yet to complete their registration fees for the competition. The teams are Bilikiki Sliders, Bilikiki Fliers, Honiara West, MOI Popi, KOSSA, Northern United and newcomers Manihots as well as defending champions, Sokamora. SIFF is calling on the teams who have not paid their registration fee to do so by Wednesday.
The 2 Bilikiki teams comprise of the players in the national beach soccer team training squad that is currently training for the regional qualifiers for the 2013 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup that will be held in Tahiti. The biggest names in the code will be out on the sand during the competition to display their skills. However, like the last Bilikiki Challenge proved being in the national training squad does not guarantee you a win.
The competition will be played in 2 groups of 4 teams each. The top 2 teams from each pool will proceed to the finals stage. The competition is expected to be completed on Sunday.
