Marist 0 – Real Kakamora 1

A penalty put away by Rex Honu in the 35th minute sealed the win for Real Kakamora who could not take full advantage of their domination of the game. This tallies four points for the Makira Ulawa franchise who last week held Koloale to a 1-all draw in the opening round of the season.
Marist could not muster up any serious advance in the first half but were a much better side in the second. Primo Maeke’s sending off in the first half did little to help the side but to their credit they managed to keep the ever pressing Real Kakamora forwards frustrated for most of the match save for the lapse in the 35th minute.
Performance wise both sides did not come to the park and leaving fans with little to cheer about throughout the match. Real Kakamora despite winning did not display the flowing freestyle football they put up against Koloale.
Marist struggled in the entirety of the match to piece together set plays and often their runners on the flanks had no one to pass to in the centre. The absence of a senior figure in the midfield affected their game and young Fredrick Dola is now the one trying to bear this burden in a side dominated by youth level players.
The coming round will not be easier for Marist who are heading for clash with last season’s runners-up Western United. Real Kakamora are scheduled for a date with defending champions Solomon Warriors who are currently leading the competition tally in the Telekom S-League.
