Solomon Islands national U-17 team will make their competitive European debut tonight against Moldova at the UEFA International development tournament in Minsk, Belarus.
The young lads are on a positive run of form lately coming into the encounter with a 3-2 win over Jersey over the weekend.
Solomon Islands coach Stanley Waita was pleased with his boys’ performances against a very strong Jersey U18s on Saturday.
“The boys did well against Jersey but they just need to switch on and do the right thing,” he said.
“It was a result good for the boys especially playing in this kind of cold weather.”
Waita stressed that the win over Jersey is a morale booster for the young lads ahead of their opening match with Moldova.
National U-17s captain Charles Mani said the boys are determined to compete against Moldova.
“We are happy after beating Jersey and to be honest all the boys can’t wait to take on Moldova in our first game,” he said.
“I believe in the boys despite talking on some of the top youth teams in this part of the world.
“As we all know it will be tough playing against Moldova but like a said, we are here to compete and get experience from our opponents.”
Solomon Islands will take on Moldova in the opening match of the UEFA International development tournament tonight at in Minks at 8pm SI local time.
