Lions win U-16 preseason

Urban BC Lions are crowned as the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) Men’s Under-16 preseason champions after a 5-0 win over Malaita Kingz in the final at SIFF academy today.

The Peter Jerry coached side started the final on the front foot with a number good chances to open the score sheet.

Solomon Islands youth international Densely Gesini handed the Lions are 1-0 lead at the break.

Malaita Kingz regrouped in the second half to in search for an equaliser and their big moment arrived when the referee awarded a penalty for a foul in the box.

National U-16 midfielder Maxwell Keana penalty was saved to hand back the advantage in the Lions’ favour.

Striker William Auga scored a hat-trick either side of Philip Ropa’s lone goal to seal a well-deserved victory in the final for the Lions.

Urban BC Lions coach Peter Jerry was pleased with his young lads’ overall effort.

“I am happy for my boys since day one they have worked hard for this moment”, he said.

“Credit to the young boys for putting on a matured performance against a strong Malaita Kingz side in the final.

“This is very important for us in preparation for the league next year because it will help us improve on our weaknesses as a team.”

The 2019 SIFF Youth League proper is set to commence in February next year.
