Kurukuru touchdown in Spain

The team touched down at the Barajas international airport in Madrid where they were met by officials from the Royal Federacion Espanola de Futbol (RFEF). Miguel Torres, who played a vital role in organising the tour was the RFEF official who greeted the team on their arrival.
Speaking at the welcome ceremony at the hotel where the team is staying Toress said the RFEF is proud to host Kurukuru and will do their best to make them feel at home during their stay.
“We are very proud to help the Solomon Islands futsal team as part of our partnership with the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC). Please enjoy your stay in Spain and make as much use of opportunity as you can,” Torres said.
Joseph Boso, thanked the RFEF on behalf of the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) saying that Kurukuru is privileged to be training in Spain for the world cup.
“Please convey to the RFEF our sincere appreciation for the warm welcome that we have received and we feel privileged indeed to be here for the training camp. This is an unique opportunity for Kurukuru and am sure all the players are looking forward to starting the program,” Boso said.
In Spain Kurukuru will undergo an intensive training program that will see them play 3 friendly matches. First up in the series of friendlies are2 club matches against Carnicer Torrejon and Caja Segovia on Tuesday 16 October and Thursday 18 October respectively.
The highlight of Kurukuru’s Spanish tour, however, is the friendly match against Spain who are current the European champions and are also on their way to FIFA Futsal World Cup. This will be the Kurukuru’s first match against Spain. This match will take place at the Palacio Multi-usos in Guadalajara on Saturday 20th October.
Kurukuru’s tour of Spain is organised under a development partnership between the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) and the RFEF. Under the partnership the RFEF offered to help develop futsal in the region through coaching support and equipment.
From Spain Kurukuru will head to Thailand for 2 more international friendly matches before the World Cup kicks off on November 1. While in Spain members of the Kurukuru team will visit the RFEF headquarters and also watch the Spain versus France FIFA 2014 World Cup qualifying match.
