Real Kakamora 3 v Marist Fire 2

The opening half of the match was all about Marist Fire and they had 2 goals to show for their efforts as they exited for the halftime break. Primo Maeke gave the Marist Fire faithful their first celebration after just four minutes of play when he struck home a loose ball from inside the Real Kakamora penalty area. The striker later missed a similar scoring chance later in the half when he headed wide from close range. However, Tutizama Tanito added the buffer goal just before halftime with a shot from 35 yards out that he crafted to curve in at the far post.
Despite Marist Fire enjoying better possession in the first half Real Kakamora were not outplayed but getting their composure right in front of goal did not happen for them at least before their halftime team talk changed things. Before Marist Fire got their second goal Real Kakamora missed a chance to score when Nicholas Muri crossed for Johan Doiwale in the box but the striker overran the ball. However, better things were on the way for them in the second half.
Marist Fire continued to the be dominant side in the second half but by then Real Kakamora were already a confident side and started clawing back some possession from their opponents. Within 3 minutes of retaking the field Real Kakamora scored their first goal of the match. Muri won the penalty after he was brought down and Doiwale made not mistake from the penalty spot.
Suddenly, the match came alive as Marist Fire tried to reclaim their advantage but their control of the match was already slipping by then. Real Kakamora realised that they could win the game and pushed forward with everything they had. Ian Ngahugari’s corner kick almost produced the equaliser but Muri headed wide. Moments later a poor clearance fell to Ngahugari who hammered the ball in from 30 yards out to level the scores.
With twelve minute left on the clock the lead went Real Kakamora’s way when Muri was fouled in the penalty box for the second time in the game. Doiwale again stood up for the spot kick and he repeated his success earlier in the game beating Phillip Mango with a shot to roof of the net. Real Kakamora went close for a fourth goal just before full time but Muri’s header was denied by the woodwork and not long after the final whistle sealed their win.
It was a long wait for the fans and backers of the club and their record of 16 matches will be something they will want to quickly forget about. Last season the club managed 3 draws, (against KOSSA, Marist Fire and Koloale) and lost 13 times including a 7 – 1 drubbing against Koloale which was the biggest defeat suffered by any club in the Telekom S-League so far.
Stand-in coach for Real Kakamora, Barnabas Loloito, was ecstatic with the win and says that full praise goes to the players.
“The players have finally given themselves something that they have deserved for a long time. They worked hard today and refused to be defeated despite the score line at halftime,” Loloito says.
The win puts Real Kakamora in fourth place in the table, a position they have never found themselves in before. Marist Fire join KOSSA as the only clubs without points after the completion of round 2 of the Telekom S-League.
