U-20 champs kickoff tomorrow

A colourful opening ceremony was held at Lawson Tama stadium yesterday afternoon featuring a parade involving all the 8 teams in the championship and speeches from dignitaries attending the program.
The first speaker for the afternoon was Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) President Martin Alufurai who used his speech to thank Our Telekom for sponsoring the U-20 championship and welcome all the participating teams.
Alufurai highlighted that a selection panel will be working during the championship identifying players for national representative sides including the Solomon Islands national U-20 team for the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) U-20 Championship in April 2011 and the national U-23 side, Solympics.
Also speaking at the opening ceremony was Chief Executive Officer of Our Telekom, Loyley Ngira, who emphasised the inter-connection between football and telecommunications making reference to how Our Telekom is assisting SIFF with online coverage of national and international competitions.
The fixtures for the championship mark out a tough draw with all teams required to play 3 matches in as many days.
All matches are scheduled at the SIFF Academy field since Lawson Tama is unavailable due to the Honiara Football Association (HFA) Top 10 Championship finals which will occupy the field until Wednesday.
The first match is the Group A encounter between Honiara and Guadalcanal which kicks off at 10:00am and this will be followed by another match from the same group featuring Malaita up against Makira Ulawa.
The 2 matches from Group B will follow later in the afternoon with Western Province taking on Central Islands at 2:00pm and the final match for the day is between Isabel and Lauru kicking off at 4:00pm.
The current rainy weather in Honiara is the only concern for organisers but it is hoped that the competition will be completed ahead of schedule on Saturday 23 November.
