KOSSA 2 – Malaita Kingz 1

The 41 year old veteran goalkeeper saved a penalty in the 80th minute to deny Malaita Kingz what would have been the equaliser. Coleman Makau apparently underestimated the dexterity of Aefi who read the shot and made a the perfect catch.
While the match got off the ground evenly it was Malaita Kingz who were threatening throughout. KOSSA only displayed sparks of brilliance but their finishing was far superior than their opponent’s.
Malaita Kingz took the lead in the 31st minute through Richard Fono. The midfielder read that Aefi was out of his position and he cleverly lofted the ball over the KOSSA goalkeeper who could do nought but helplessly watch it drop into the net.
Instead of sparking more aggression from Malaita Kingz the goal actually shook the KOSSA camp into action. Seven minutes later, Hudson Felani, was given too much space and too much time inside the penalty box and he hammered home KOSSA’s equaliser.
The lead swung KOSSA’s way in the 42nd minute when George Siru netted in a similar fashion to Felani. Siru is fast becoming one of the most feared forwards in the S-League and has scored every one of the seven matches his club has played so far.
With a lead to defend going into the second half KOSSA were nervous and Malaita Kingz tried to capitalise on that. However, at least at the back, KOSSA were rigidly organised and it was not easy for Malaita Kingz to drive past the line of defenders.
Several opportunities fell to Malaita Kingz midway through the second half as they attacked along both the left and right wing but the crosses are not met inside the KOSSA penalty box. Their best chance to salvage something from the game came in the form of the penalty after Dunstan Quanafia Jnr. was fouled by Charlie Otainao but even that was squandered.
KOSSA move up to second place with eight points in the 2013 Telekom S-League standings courtesy of this victory while Malaita Kingz are now in fifth place.
