Warriors seal sixth women’s title

Solomon Warriors women’s football team have secured their sixth league title with a 4-1 season finale win over a determined Marist FC side this evening at SIFF academy, Honiara.

Warriors needed a win against Marist to claim the title heading into the encounter sitting on third position with 26 points.

Debutants Wansol and Koloale were occupying the two top spots with 27 points each, putting more pressure on the Warriors’ title pursuit.

Serah Ragomo scored four goals as the women in red clinched the title with a matured performance.

The win lifted Warriors to first with 29 points from 9 wins, 2 draws and a single defeat throughout the 2018 season.

Solomon Warriors captain, Layda Samani gave credit to the rest of her team for their outstanding effort in yet another winning campaign.

“We deserved to be champions because we have worked really hard to win this competition”, the Solomon Islands international said.

“Big credit to my girls for their hard work in training and all our matches which for me was not easy.”

Samani has won all six titles with the Warriors and she is confident her team are capable of retaining the crown next season.

“I might be retiring next year since this is my sixth league title with the team.

“We have many young girls in the team who will definitely carry on with the winning mentality.

“I believe they win come back stronger next to defend the league and noting impossible with the right attitude”, Samani added.

Wansol a newly established club finished second in their debut season edging an experience Koloale with a better numerical goal difference.

The individual awards was dominated by Wansol as striker Jamina David wins the golden boot with a staggering 28 goals in 12 matches and shoot stopper Corina Rotora received the golden glove for the best goal keeper of the season.

Competition coordinator, Antoinette Miniti congratulates the winners and assured the participating teams the league will continue next year.

“Thank you to all team managers, players and supporters for making the league a success”, she said.

An official presentation was officiated at the SIFF academy ground.
