Numbu Christian High School football team continues their dominance in the school league as they secured another final in the Honiara Football Association (HFA) U-19 School League.
Led by Solomon Islands national U-17 winger Philip Ropa, Numbu continued their impressive run in the HFA School League with another appearance in the final after a 4-3 semi-final penalty shootout win against White River Community High School (CHS) at King George southern field yesterday in Honiara.
White River with the likes of Solomon Islands international striker Adrian Mara, Densly Gesini and Leon Kofana were favourites heading into the semi-final clash.
Both teams couldn’t be separated at full-time in a game which was ended even after extra time.
Numbu coach Jackson Namo gives credit to his young lads for their fighting spirit.
“All in all I want to thank the boys for their character on the field, they remain positive for 90 minutes and into extra-time”, he said.
“It was a difficult game because most of their players are experience players here in Honiara.
“But I am really happy for this result to make back into the final.”
Numbu reached both the U-16 and U-19 finals last year which their U-19 side lost 3-0 to Panatina CHS at Lawson Tama Stadium.
Namo stressed that his young team will be heading into the final with a winning mentality.
Mbua Valley CHS come back from a goal down to beat Vura CHS 3-1 in the second semi-final to book a final spot with Numbu in the U-19 category.
In the U-17 tournament, St Joseph Tenaru won 3-0 on default in the first semi-final after Florence didn’t turn up before kick-off.
Panatina CHS with a majority of Solomon Warriors youth players managed to take an early 1-0 lead against Lunga CHS in the second semi.
Solomon Islands national U-17 defender Javin Wae led by example in defense to rally a comeback victory.
Junior Kurukuru forward William Tahariu scored an equaliser as the game tied 1-1 at the break.
Lunga scored another goal in the second half to earned a final with St Joseph.
Meanwhile, dates for the finals will be confirmed later by HFA in the coming days.
