Solomon Islands interim head coach, Moses Toata, has named a 25-man training squad for the friendly series against New Caledonia in Honiara next month.
The selection of players is largely based on the current Telekom S-League and features the recall of some in form players from recent matches including Malaita Kingz forward, Richard Fono, and Marist’s Matthias Iani who gets his first call up for the senior team.
Also returning to the squad is Phillip Mango who participated in the FIFA Futsal World Cup with the Solomon Islands national futsal team. He joins James Do’oro and Izomo Bird, both of whom are looking to make their first full international debut against New Caledonia.
Ahead is a tough series of friendly matches against New Caledonia who have an impressive track record against the home side. Recent match ups between Solomon Islands and New Caledonia have been lopsided in favour of the Francophone side.
The Les Cagous will fly next Monday for two matches scheduled for the 5th and 8th of October. The Caledonian Football Federation (FCF) has confirmed that they will travel with only sixteen players for the friendlies, however, their names have not yet been confirmed.
For Solomon Islands training takes places in the mornings at the Lawson Tama Stadium and players are informed to attend the sessions taking place from 6:00am. The team will go into camp later this week.
