The ceremonial handover was conducted at the Telekom Haus this morning with members of the press and SIFF and Our Telekom staff witnessing. Shortly after the ceremony actual exchange of funds took place with Our Telekom Chief Executive (CEO), Loyley Ngira, handing over the cheque for the amount to Neil Poloso, CEO of SIFF.
Loyley says that Our Telekom is committed to supporting football growth in Solomon Islands and is working with SIFF and as the football mother body to achieve this.
“This handover today is part of our ongoing partnership with football. Our Telekom wants to support football development in Solomon Islands and we are working closely with SIFF in this endeavour,” Ngira says.
“We are pleased to support the number one game in Solomon Islands. This year we have helped football to achieve a lot namely by enabling the Bilikiki to qualify for the world cup and also by giving SIFF the confidence to restart the national football league, S-League.”
A statement released by Our Telekom after the handover explained that of the amount paid to SIFF, $500 000 will go towards the management of the Telekom S-League and $150 000 is in support of the Bilikiki campaign at the 2013 Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Beach Soccer Championship and the 2013 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup. The remainder is allocated to the national futsal team’s outing at the 2013 OFC Futsal Championship in July.
Poloso thanked Our Telekom for releasing the sponsorship to SIFF stating that Our Telekom has helped football achieve more of its objectives.
“On behalf of our member associations, football players and fans of Solomon Islands the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) wishes to thank Our Telekom for availing this sponsorship grant for this year,” says Poloso.
“As the major sponsor of football Our Telekom has helped us achieve more in the last four years both internationally and locally and we look forward to a strong partnership with them in the future. Simply put, Our Telekom has changed the football landscape in Solomon Islands and we view this partnership with great importance.”
