Twelve candidates for SIFF election

The nomination of candidates closed on Tuesday 21 May and attracted interest from eight of SIFF’s 10 member associations. Only one member association did not submit a candidate while one is excluded from the process as it has not yet regained rights as a full member association of SIFF.
The position of president, senior vice president and vice president all have two candidates nominated. The position of treasurer has only one candidate and the nominee will most likely be elected unopposed if the verification process qualifies him to contest. Five candidates have been nominated for the three ordinary member positions in the SIFF executive.
The names of the candidates will not be released until they have been determined to quality to contest the election. This process will take over a week and the names of the final candidates will be released along with the agenda of the congress at the end of the month. Candidates will also be given the opportunity to accept or reject nominations during this period.
The position of general secretary is not contested since the SIFF congress decided that the position and the title be made redundant several years ago. Instead, this position is occupied by the chief executive officer who is employed as a full time staff of SIFF.
The term of a SIFF executive committee lasts four years. The current SIFF executive committee was voted in in the 2009 SIFF congress held in Gizo, Western Province. The coming SIFF congress will take place in Honiara.
