SIFF congress moved to June

The decision was confirmed by the SIFF executive on Friday and the new dates of June 21 and 22 have been approved. This will allow the SIFF secretariat to ensure that nominations for the election of new executive committee members can be done in accordance with the SIFF statutes.
The SIFF statutes require that nominations for the SIFF elections have to be done 31 days before the date on which the voting is to take place. Additionally, as per the statutes the SIFF financial report and activity report for the previous year must be available to SIFF’s members 21 days before congress is convened. Hence, with the new dates that are in place both requirements can be fulfilled allowing for a proper administering of the 2013 congress and election of new executive committee members in line with governing rules.
In the meantime, the SIFF secretariat is finalising preparations for the congress which will take place in Honiara. Twenty delegates from all of SIFF’s member associations will convene at the SIFF academy in Honiara for the two-day meeting, marked as the most important event in SIFF’s calendar this year.
The highlight for this year’s congress will be the election of SIFF’s executive committee. The current executive committee, headed by Martin Alufurai as president, was voted in in 2009. Their term will expire after the election and the new office bearers that are elected will head football in Solomon Islands for the next four years.
The actual election will take place on June 22, the first day of the congress is reserved for the presentation of reports to SIFF’s member associations. This will include both the SIFF annual activity report and financial statements for 2011 and 2012.
The SIFF congress takes place each year and after a cycle of four years elections are held to determine the membership of the executive committee.
