Malaita Kingz 0 – Western United 2

There were some major changes in the starting line up of Western United with some of the big names like Joses Nawo and Alick Maemae all relegated to the bench. George Kakai was favoured in place of Loni Qaraba in centre left defensive position while Nicholas Tara’ito was called in for his debut as goalkeeper.
Malaita Kingz opened the game well and very early on threatened to take the lead through Lore Foanaota but his attempt was over the cross bar. Foanaota proved to be thorn for the Western United defence because of his pace and often some last grasp defending was done to deny the Malaita Kingz forward.
Despite the major changes in the line up Western United relied on the old guard to secure their three points. Benjamin Totori, scored from outside the 18 yard box with a powerful shot past Leon Fox to give his players some much needed confidence going into the break.
The second stanza was played out evenly but Joe Luwi secured Western United’s win with his attempt in the 80th minute.
Malaita Kingz will take on Marist in the coming round of the Telekom S-League and Western United will meet Solomon Warriors in the top of the table clash.
