Bilikiki to resume training on Monday

Most of the players have returned to their home villages and while most have arrived back in Honiara a few are yet to do so.
Since trimming the squad to 15 players in November the team has already held a 2-week camp in which they trained twice a day and played some friendly matches, thus, already giving the team management a mental picture of the final 12 that will be selected for the OFC championship.
A meeting held yesterday by the team management confirmed the resumption of training and finalised the training program for the remaining 5 weeks until their departure for the championship in Tahiti in mid February.
The final training program will see the Bilikikis train once a day for the next 2 weeks before they go into camp for the final 3 weeks in which they will train twice daily.
Head coach, Henry Koto, says that he appreciates the players for their strong attitude in training in their last camp and expects the same from the players in the remaining weeks.
“Players will need to be at the top of their game to make it into the final 12 so I want each player to prove to me that he is worthy of selection. It is up to the players whether they want to be in the qualifiers,” Koto says.
The big issue weighing on the mind of the Bilikiki management is whether star forward James Naka will be fit for the championship as he is still recovering from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident during the Christmas break.
Team manager, Rueben Oimae, says that they are monitoring his recovery and will be able to make a decision on his place in the team when they receive his medical report.
“Naka’s injuries are serious and at this stage we are awaiting advice from his doctor. His health is important and we do not want to put him under any pressure, however, we are optimistic that he will recover in time,” Oimae says.
All Bilikiki squad members are asked to turn up at Lawson Tama at 4:00pm on Monday 10 January for briefing.
A final announcement on the squad is expected at the end of next week.
