Bilikiki defeats Kurukuru in beach friendly

It took the Bilikikis until the second third to gain some command of the match after suffering an onslaught of shots at goal from the rampant futsal players.
The Kurukurus, unexpectedly, scored first through former Bilikiki player Paul Huia, who made use of the bicycle kick to beat Izomo Bird who was manning the gates for the beach soccer side to bring cheers from the supporters they brought with them.
Bilikiki captain, James Naka, put some confidence back in his side scoring a penalty to draw the scores level at 1 all right at the end of the first third.
The second third saw Bilikiki play with more composure but the threat from the quick footed Kurukuru players remained strong and they gave the beach soccer players a hard time to put their game plan into action.
Bilikiki’s second goal came from Robert Laua who scored from another penalty after he was pushed over inside the Kurukuru 9 metre area, thus, giving his side a 2 – 1 lead going into the final third.
The final third saw more action from both sides as Kurukuru fought to come back into the game against stiff opposition from the Bilikiki side who were struggling to string together their set plays at the front.
Fortunately for Bilikiki, new recruit McPhillip Aisa, added another goal from a free kick to put them further in front after Naka missed one a few minutes earlier.
Laua then added the final goal with seconds left on the clock from a header after Nicholas Muri set up a pin point cross for him.
The 2 teams will meet at the Multipurpose Hall court for their second futsal friendly next weekend.
The first futsal friendly was won by Kurukuru 5 – 3.
