Solympics leave for Vanuatu

The Solympics has three days to spare in Port Vila before the competition commences on Saturday. Other teams travelling for the competition are Fiji and New Caledonia and the hosts complete the numbers for the four-nation tourney.
Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) President, William Lai, joined families and supporters to see the team off at the Henderson Airport and had a short but strong message for the players.
“The Pacific Games lies ahead of you but this competition is important and you should aim to win. Winning gives confidence and belief in what you can do. I urge you to seek that in Vanuatu and take it with you to Papua New Guinea next month,” Lai says.
Head coach, Patrick Miniti, expresses confidence with his team and relishes to the opportunity for play the test matches.
“This is a big opportunity for the team and for us coaches working with them because we can assess our players in a competitive environment,” says Miniti.
“We will meet top regional opposition in this competition and I look forward to playing against New Caledonia. This is a variety of opposition with different styles and they will give us a really good test,” Miniti says.
The Solympics will return on Sunday 21st June and will train locally for a week before flying to Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea for the Pacific Games.
Our Telekom boosted morale before the team’s departure this afternoon with a donation of polo shirts for the team to wear at the competition.
