Fundraising Committee targets $200K

The committee was recalled with a new leadership and several new members with the aim of supporting the two football teams taking part in the Pacific Games. Last year, the committee raised a similar amount for the Solomon Islands Under-20 Team that participated in the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Under-20 Championship.
With a new leader and several new members this year, the committee now led by Sikobia Ngira, is adamant to kick start activities. Even though the committee has limited time to hit their target they are confident that it can be done.
“We have to work extra hard to fundraise for the national teams because time is against us. However, we are sure that with the right effort and planning we can raise enough funds,” Mrs. Ngira says.
Key to their activities is the corporate fundraising dinner set for 20th of June at the Cowboys Grill. This will be supported by several smaller events plus appeals for associate sponsorship and possibly also draws involving the public.
SIFF Chief Executive Officer, Neil Poloso, praises the committee and encourages the community to respond to their appeals.
“We are grateful for the volunteers in the fundraising committee who are using their own time to help football. I want to ask our community especially the business houses and organisations to show your support for our national teams,” Poloso says.
Football will send the highest number of delegates to Pacific Games with as many as 40 athletes plus officials. Both the Men’s Under-23 Team and the Senior Women’s Team has twenty players and a minimum coaching staff of three persons.
The size of the delegation also means that SIFF is burdened with the cost of USD$41 000.00 for the registrations costs due to the National Olympic Committee of Solomon Islands. This comes on top of training costs, equipment such boots and uniforms and welfare of the players and officials.
