Marist Fire 1 – Malaita Kingz 1

The start did not go as planned for Malaita Kingz who went down after only 2 minutes when left flanker Fred Bala found the back of the net after trying to cross the ball to his forwards and the trajectory was misjudged by Leon Fox for the lead to go Marist Fire’s way.
Malaita Kingz were quick to turn the pressure on Marist Fire and almost equalised in the 5th minute when Fanai Koti’s pass from deep inside his own half picked out the unmarked Trevor Suinao who swung in the ball to Michael Taeman whose header was on target but Navusu Kitu got his hands on the ball to deny the intended goal.
On the other end of the field former Hekari United striker, Abraham Iniga, went close for Marist Fire when he headed in Lency Saeni’s cross from 6 yards out only to find the post and Koti was quick to clear the ball away.
Malaita Kingz became more organised halfway through the first half but they did not utilise their chances and the same can be said for Marist Fire who saw a couple of their chances go begging before the halftime break.
The second started excellently for Malaita Kingz with Taeman getting the equaliser in the 49th minute after a brilliant run down the line gave him the edge over the chasing defender and he hammered the ball home from a tight angle.
Marist Fire followed with another well worked move up the centre but Joachim Waroi’s shot went wide and Bala tried a long ranger but Fox was able to read his shot correctly this time.
Ben Hibiscus had the opportunity to claim all 3 points for Marist Fire when he fired from close range but his shot hit the post and went out harmlessly for a goal kick and a similar opportunity fell to Charles Irobina for Malaita Kingz in the 80th minute but his shot went over the cross bar.
The match was filled with scoring chances for both sides but their failure to take them meant that they only took 1 point each and not the 3 points that could have gone to either of them.
