Honiara Just Play schools start receiving equipment

The schools were supposed to receive the equipment last week but this was not possible so the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) Special Projects Office had to reschedule the distribution of the equipment to this week.
SIFF Special Projects Manager, Phillip Ohoto’ona, is relieved about receiving the shipment but disappointed because the distribution is already behind schedule.
“It is great that we finally have the equipment in our possession but this means that we will issue them throughout this week, thus, further pushing back the start of the 6-week program for the schools. Some schools will be closing for the year in 4 weeks time meaning that they will have to wait until next year to complete some of their sessions,” Ohoto’ona says.
Nevertheless, Ohoto’ona is optimistic that all the Just Play schools will be able to successfully implement the program despite having to stop for the Christmas break and resuming in 2011.
Ohoto’ona also called upon all schools in the program to contact or visit the SIFF office to arrange for the collection of the equipment.
All the schools are expected to start their 6-week programs by next Monday and the technical officer for the Just Play program, Commins Menapi, will be visiting them to support them and provide advice.
Along with the equipment the schools will also be issued with a number of forms for SIFF to collect data about the implementation of Just Play in each school as well as identify the top performing participants in the program.
Just Play is an Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) initiative in collaboration with the Government of Australia – through its agencies the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) and the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) – and Football Federation Australia (FFA).
Australia’s commitment to Just Play is spelled out in a $4 million contribution for the program throughout the pacific.
