Real Kakamora replaces JP Su’uria

An emergency meeting by the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) Executive Committee this afternoon selected Real Kakamora out from a pool of 3 reserve clubs in order to ensure that 8 clubs participate in the Telekom S-League.
The other 2 clubs were Northern United and Central Honiara, both from the Honiara Football Association.
A statement from SIFF following the meeting said that “… JP Su’uria has been replaced by Real Kakamora after the former club has been ruled out from the Telekom S-League by way of conduct which indicates that they are not willing to participate.”
The statement explained that Real Kakamora was settled upon because their application represented a fulfilment of one of the fundamental goals of the Telekom S-League which is to encourage participation from more provinces.
As such all matches in the fixtures for JP Su’uria will now be played by Real Kakamora including the opening match scheduled for 1:00pm tomorrow.
A representative from Real Kakamora, Ian Paia, says that his team is ready to play and will be able to show up in their match tomorrow.
“We have a team of 26 players on standby and we are ready to pay for our registration and complete all other requirements to participate,” Paia says.
The impasse stemmed from the fact that JP Su’uria is owned by observers of the Saturday Sabbath who were not happy about the club going against their religious doctrines.
The same issue was protested by another club, Solomon Warriors, who shared the concerns of JP Su’uria.
Both clubs made formal protests to SIFF resulting in an earlier executive committee meeting which decided to uphold the scheduling matches on Saturdays and Sundays for the Telekom S-League.
A 1-week period has been given for clubs in the Telekom S-League to consider recruiting JP Su’uria players who were affected by the non-participation of their club.
The SIFF media office was not able to get a statement from JP Su’uria in time for this release.
