MPs take to the pitch

The match was organised by the parliament member of West Honiara, Namson Tran, along with Dragons social club and the Titans which is composed mostly of staff of the Solomon Islands Football Federation.
The aim of the match was to give the parliamentarians an opportunity to enjoy some fun football and let of some steam as a break from their heavy meeting schedule and several of them made full use of it playing for most of the 60 minutes.
The match ended in a 3 – 3 draw with the parliamentarians taking the upper hand in the first half before the Titans/Dragons came back in the second half to take command of the game and draw level with them.
Key players for the parliament side were Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Manaseh Maelanga, and former leader of opposition, Hon. Steve Abana, who displayed glimpses of their former selves when they used to feature for the local teams.
Following the match a barbeque was held and several speakers took the stand to express their support for the event.
Speaking for the Titans, Eddie Ngava, thanked the parliamentarians for coming out and taking the time to enjoy football with SIFF staff.
Member for Gizo/Kolombangara constituency, Hon. Gordon Darcy Lilo, spoke on behalf of the parliamentarians and used his speech to reflect upon the government’s commitment to continue supporting football in Solomon Islands.
Another match is planned for next week.
