Football Ferns too good for Kirios

It was another one sided affair for the Kiwis who controlled the game right from start till finish in a dominating display of their strength against the Pacific island countries.
For Solomon Islands the demons from their past refused to die as they succumbed to the same score line they received against the Kiwis in the 2007 OFC Women’s Nations Cup.
The flood gates against the Kirios were opened by 17 year old Rosie White who drove home a half volley into the bottom corner from just inside the area in the 7th minute.
Ten (10) minutes later Ria Percival sent the Kiwis to 2 nil in front bending her corner kick enough to beat Betty Sade.
By halftime the Football Ferns were 4 goals in front with further additions from Captain, Hayley Moorwood in the 30th minute and from Amber Hearn 6 minutes later.
The second half did not come any better for the Kirios as the Football Ferns put past them an additional 4 goals to bring their tournament tally to 39 goals for with nothing against so far.
Sarah Gregorius, was the Football Ferns’ first second half scorer hammering into the back of the net a cross from Kirsty Yallop in the 52nd minute.
Hannah Wilkinson added her contribution in the 60th minute to bring her side further ahead before both Gregorius and White grabbed their second each for the game in the 68th and 86th minute respectively.
With an arsenal of top footballers the Football Ferns had no reason not to win the game, however, the score line will be a hard thing for their opponents to swallow as the result sinks in.
The Kirios remaining chance for redemption will come when they take on the Cook Islands in the 3rd and 4th playoff final scheduled for 1:00pm (New Zealand time) on Friday 8th October.
