SIFF to be strict on player eligibility

Players eligible to participate in the Our Telekom National U-20 Championship must be born on or after May 1st 1991 the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) has announced.
Instructions provided to participating teams required that all players must provide proof of age either by passport or birth certificates before they are allowed to take the field in the championship.
Teams who do not comply with this regulation may lose points as SIFF goes tough with the aim of selecting the right team for the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) U-20 Championship in April next year.
A statement from the organising committee said that this requirement was put inside the regulations and all teams have been informed about this already through instructions provided to them with the registration forms.
Meanwhile preparations are continuing for the championship with the dates now confirmed for 15 – 27 November.
The opening ceremony for the championship is scheduled for Saturday 13 and the competitions matches will kick off from Monday 15 with the finals expected to be played on Saturday 27.
So far a total of 7 provinces have confirmed their participation in the U-20 championship. They are: Malaita; Honiara; Western; Isabel; Guadalcanal; Makira Ulawa and Central Islands.
SIFF is expecting all registration lists plus the verification documents for all players to reach the office by Monday 8 November, 2010.
The organising committee is calling upon all Provincial Football Associations (PFAs) to ensure that they meet the deadline so that all the information about the players can be loaded into the OFC competition management system.
“We are trying to move into a fully automated information management system for SIFF’s competitions and this can only be achieved if all the information we require arrives on time,” Joseph Boso from the SIFF Media Office said.
The Central Province team will be arriving this weekend while other teams are expected next week ahead of the opening ceremony.
The U-20 championship is sponsored by Our Telekom.
