Malaita Kingz 2 – Hana 1

Hana recorded a win by default against KOSSA in the previous round due to a technicality but the euphoria from their lucky strike was not able to give them a win against the rejuvenated Malaita Kingz.
Hana had an excellent start to the game but Malaita Kingz were quick to claim back some say as they put the Honiara side under pressure quite early in the match but both sides were guilty of not making full use of their opportunities in the first half.
Despite their mistakes Hana took the lead after the half hour mark through Godwin Fugui who beat a maze of defenders with his shot and with his goal Malaita Kingz fortunes appeared doomed.
The situation got worse for Malaita Kingz when key midfielder Alfred Ali was given the red card for a reckless tackle on Christopher Moia that resulted in medical treatment for the Hana flanker just before half time.
The second half was highlighted by the refusal of Malaita Kingz to give in and they fought their way back into the game and eventually winning it from Hana.
Hana looked to increase their lead early in the second half but this did not happen for them as the tough Malaita Kingz backline kept them at bay through the efforts of Dick Bensey and Fanai Koti.
The fact that they were one man down did not seem to matter to Malaita Kingz as they drew on the support of the crowd to find a way through their tiring opponents who saw possession and time in opponents half slip away as the clock edged past the hour mark.
The real sign that Malaita Kingz could win the came when Jack Jethro completed a cross from Charles Irobina with a volley that shot past all the defenders and the goalkeeper into the back of the net.
Finding new energy from their goal Malaita Kingz continued pressing Hana for the winner and their efforts paid off when a defensive error saw Irobina pick up a loose ball behind the opposing defenders and he quickly advanced on Jimmy Qwaina before sending the ball past him on the second go with 7 minutes left on the clock.
Hana went on the offensive to reclaim command but efforts from Fugui and Cornelly Rata did not find the target, thus, leaving Malaita Kingz to claim their second victory of the season.
