Coaching course underway in Honiara

Twenty-eight participants are taking part in this course with representation from the S-League clubs and SIFF’s ten member associations. The course is delivered by FIFA course instructor, Didier Chambaron and will conclude on Friday.
The course was opened by the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, George Palua who reaffirmed with the local coaches of the pledge of the national government to developing football and sports.
“This year my government made a commitment to develop sports in Solomon Islands and we will work together with strong associations like SIFF to bring about development programmes to raise the standard of football,” says Palua.
The course aims to re-inforce the coaching principles with participants while introducing them to high level knowledge involving tactical play and high performance football. Most of the participants have received training before and this course will help them bridge to higher level courses in the future.
Chief executive officer of SIFF, Neil Poloso, says that the high number participants attending this advanced course is a significant achievement.
“We are very happy to have this number and since this is an advanced course it is indicating that we have a growing number of coaches that can attain higher qualification in the future,” says Poloso.
Poloso also states that SIFF anticipates that this course will have a significant impact on the quality of football in Solomon Islands.
“We hope that from this course we will see our best coaches move on to higher level coaching qualification because we want local people who can deliver the right quality of training for our clubs and national team players.”
“We also hope that the knowledge they gain will impact on the performance of our national league clubs and also our provincial teams. We want football in Solomon Islands to be competitive and educating our coaches is one way we will achieve this.”
In 2015 alone, at least three FIFA education courses has been hosted in Honiara including the FIFA MA Goalkeeping Coaching course held in August and the FIFA MA Refereeing Course held earlier this month.
Still to be held this year is the FIFA MA Youth Coaching Course which is planned to be hosted in Auki, Malaita Province.
