The Solomon Islands national football team is set for a decisive encounter against New Zealand in their final Group A match of the OFC Nations Cup, scheduled for Tuesday, June 18, at 3:00 pm (Local Time).
After a narrow 0-1 defeat to Vanuatu on Saturday, the Solomon Islands squad is determined to bounce back and keep their tournament hopes alive.
The recent loss to Vanuatu has put the Solomon Islands in a precarious position. A defeat in the upcoming match would mean an exit from the competition, while a victory would offer a slim but critical chance to advance to the next stage as New Zealand and Vanuatu will play out in the final group match.
Coach Jacob Moli has emphasized the importance of mental resilience and a renewed focus for the crucial game against New Zealand.
“After the disappointing loss to Vanuatu, we have shifted our focus entirely to the upcoming match,” Moli told OFC Media this morning in a pre-match interview.

“The team is dealing with some minor injuries, particularly Alwin Hou, but overall, the players are in good shape and are approaching this match with a different mindset. We know we’re up against a professional and formidable team, but we are ready to do everything we can to get a win.”
“The preparation for the game has been intense, with the coaching staff working tirelessly to address the issues and come up with a stronger starting XI.
He said that the players have been responsive, showing a strong commitment to improving their performance and giving their all on the field.
New Zealand, known for its professionalism and tactical prowess, presents a significant challenge, as the 5-time title holders of the competition – which makes the Solomon Islands need to be at their absolute best.
Injuries have been a concern for Coach Moli, especially with key player Alwin Hou nursing a minor injury.
“Apart from Alwin’s minor injuries, all the players are ok and ready for unfinished business ahead.
“We are recovering from the weekend’s match and look forward to tomorrow’s encounter and concentrate work on things we need to prepare for a good run. It will be a different mindset altogether we will be trying out everything we can to get a win.
The match will kick off at 3:00 pm (Local Time) tomorrow at the VFF Fresh Water stadium in Port Vila, Vanuatu. It will be live streamed via FIFA Plus.
