The Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) extends its sincere appreciation to Ms Yokohama Asano of Japan for her continued generosity and support towards women’s football in the Solomon Islands.
Ms Asano, who previously worked in the Solomon Islands and has maintained a strong connection with the country since returning to Japan, recently visited Honiara for a few days. She currently works as a consultant in relation to Japanese Government scholarship programmes in Solomon Islands and the wider Oceania region.
Before returning to Japan today, Ms Asano made a personal donation of base-layer shorts/tights to the Solomon Islands U-16 Girls Team.
This is not the first time Ms Asano has personally supported a Solomon Islands women’s national team. During her time in Honiara last year as part of her work, she also donated similar items to the Solomon Islands Senior Women’s Team prior to their departure for Port Moresby to compete in the MSG Prime Ministers’ Cup.
Her latest contribution reflects her continued love for football and her strong affection for the Solomon Islands and its people.
Ms Asano also extended her best wishes to the U-16 Girls National Team as they prepare for the upcoming OFC U-16 Women’s Championship, which is set to kick off this weekend.
SIFF President Donald Marahare acknowledged Ms Asano’s continued support and thanked her for once again thinking of Solomon Islands football.
“Ms Asano has demonstrated that her connection with Solomon Islands continues even though she is now based in Japan. Last year she supported our senior women’s team, and this year she has extended the same generosity to our U-16 girls. We sincerely appreciate her kindness and continued support for the development of women’s football in our country,” President Marahare said.
SIFF recognises that gestures such as these provide not only practical support but also encouragement and motivation to our young players as they prepare to represent the country on the international stage.
The Federation wishes Ms Asano a safe journey back to Japan and extends its sincere gratitude for her continued friendship, generosity and support for Solomon Islands football.
