Solomon Islands futsal club Kooline have defeated USP Solomon 5-0 today to win the Fiji International Futsal Championship at the FMF Gymnasium in Suva, Fiji.
The championship saw top futsal teams in Fiji, Vanuatu and Solomon Islands convened in the hub of the Pacific for the ultimate title.
Kooline consist of Solomon Islands internationals in the form of Kolman Makau, George Stevenson, Alwin Hou, Anthony Talo and Atana Fa’arodo.
USP Solomon have in their ranks Jeffery Bule and Junior Wane as players with international futsal experience.
Captain Kolman Makau led by example with three goals alongside a goal apiece from Elis Mana and Atana Fa’arodo.
Makau gave credit to his teammates for their tireless effort in the competition and particularly in the final against familiar opposition.
“First I want to thank my teammates for their hard work to achieve what we came here for”, the Solomon Islands pivot player said.
“On behalf of the team as captain I am really happy that we win this tournament.”
The Kurukuru lad insisted that exposure to such international tournament is very important for local clubs in Solomon Islands.
“I think the level in this competition is good but then most of the teams here are not as strong as teams back home.
“My message to young people back home is continue to work hard and be discipline,” Makau added.
Kooline become the second Solomon Islands side to win an international futsal championship in Fiji after Indo-Solo’s triumph last year.
