Solomon Islands player of the year Gagame Feni says he is striving to achieve more in his football career.
Feni was voted by the local media as the most outstanding player of the 2017/2018 Telekom S-League season.
The former Solomon Warriors winger was named during the annual TSL Awards night on Wednesday at the Cowboy’s Grill in Honiara.
He is currently playing under a six month contract with Havelock Wanderers for the Central Winter premier league in New Zealand.
Speaking from his comfort in New Zealand, Feni said it’s a dream to achieve such award.
“Winning the Golden Ball, it sets me off the right path I guess and makes me even want to strive for more.
“It will give me lots of confidence especially play here in New Zealand,” Feni said.
The 27-year-old didn’t expect to win the award despite playing a key role in the Warrior’s double last season.
He stepped up on the most important occasion when it matters when he scored all four goals in the 4-3 win over runners-up Marist.
“To be honest with you I don’t know what to say am speechless.
“To win the TSL player of the season is very rare because every player wants it.
“For me it’s like a fairy tale story but now it’s happen in real life so just can’t believe to win it,” he stated.
Feni was not available to receive his award during the ceremony due to his stint with Wanderers but he gives credit to his former Warriors team mates.
“To my Solomon Warriors team mates, thank you for helping me winning the award.
“Without all of you and the coaching team, I can’t make it as the player of the season,” he added.
Meanwhile, Feni has had an impressive season so far for the Wanderers in their Ultra Football League campaign.
He is on a consistent scoring record with the Wanderers since making his debut end of last month.
The north Malaita native continued his form with as many goals in all three games he has played so far for the Wanderers.
