Football to raise funds for Temotu

The Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) with Solomon Warriors Football Club, Solomon Islands Football Coaches Association (SIFCA) Provincial Select and GBR Football Club are putting hands together for the event. The event is also endorsed by the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The two matches will be played on Sunday (3rd March, 2013) at Lawson Tama stadium. The first match which kicks off at 2:00pm features SIFCA Provincial Select against GBR Football Club. GBR Football Club is a team composed of personnel working with police and military component of the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI).
The main match of the day will kick off at 4:00pm and is between the Solomon Bonitos and Solomon Warriors. The fixture will also serve as a test match for both teams who are preparing for respective international competitions in this month.
All gate takings for the day will go towards the fundraising effort plus each team will play will make a donation $1000 each. Collection bins will be set up at Lawson Tama for further donations from the public and raffle tickets for the special prizes will also be organised.
The funds raised will go towards an NDMO nominated rehabilitation project which will depend on the amount of money raised. SIFF will work closely with NDMO in the collection and disbursement of all funds collected.
SIFF has nominated former Solomon Islands international, Commins Menapi, who is from Temotu province, to chair the fundraising activities. Interested Temotuans are asked to contact Joseph Boso at SIFF if they wish to assist as volunteers for the event.
The competitions department of SIFF is calling on the public to turn out and support the event.
“We urge the public to come out and support this fundraising drive – it is a for a very good cause. It will also be a good afternoon with entertaining football so we hope to see a good crowd,” Joseph Boso, SIFF head of media and competitions said.
Entrance fees are $20 for adults and $10 for children at the grandstand and $10 for adults and $5 for children on the hillside.
