This is our wakeup call: Kadau

Speaking to local media at the arrival of the team Kadau expressed disappointment about the result which saw the Kurukuru finish in fifth out of an overall tally of eight teams. It is the worst finish by the Kurukuru and ends an era of dominance of futsal in the region which lasted four years.
“As the head coach I wish to share my disappointment with fans and supporters. However, we have to be positive about the future and take this result as a wakeup call,” Kadau says.
Kadau acknowledged that the competition was not the same as in previous years. He mentioned Tahiti and New Zealand as being very well prepared and this is an indication of what could come in the qualifiers which are scheduled to take place in two years time.
“We noticed that everyone is getting better, more organised and it is no longer as straightforward as before. We have to lift our game to another level and everyone needs to work harder including the coaches, players and our federation and other stakeholders,” Kadau says.
The team arrived home to a quiet reception at the Henderson Airport hosted by families and the Solomon Islands Football Federation. It was a far cry from the boisterous celebrations that awaited the team following their qualification for 2012 FIFA Futsal World Cup in 2011.
The team acknowledged that the competition has been a challenge for them but they want to look towards the future. The team manager cited cold weather and the absence of preparation matches as major obstacles to the team reaching its full potential.
“We never had the opportunity to test the match venue so the team had to use the first game to try to adapt to the size of the court. The cold weather did not help us and we tried our best deal with it but it was not easy,” said Augustine Saimanu, the team manager.
Kurukuru were winners of the regional futsal title in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 making them record holders in the discipline. They also took part in the 2008 and 2012 FIFA Futsal World Cup in addition to the Al Fateh Intercontinental Futsal Championship in Libya in 2009.
