Women’s team moves into camp

The Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) has organized for the team to spend their final week in the country in camp at the SWIM accommodation facilities on Guadalcanal.
The objective is to help the players and officials to create and maintain a focus on their goals at the championship in New Zealand.
The team members arrived for training this afternoon with their bags all packed and ready for the camp. Immediately after their training session they were transported to the camp venue.
Assistant Coach Diane Justus, has underlined the importance of the team camp saying that it is vital for team spirit and concentration.
“This is both a difficult and a vital time for the players and officials as they will not spend their final week with their families but it is important for our preparations,” Ms. Justus said.
On the field their preparations continue and the team is becoming stronger and more confident as they complete each day of training.
This week they have shifted to a new training ground after the SIFF Academy football field was closed in preparation for the Our Telekom National Kids Football, Cultural Exchange & Education Festival.
The national women’s team is now training at the Our Telekom Recreational Centre football field which was kindly offered by venue owners, Our Telekom who is also their major sponsor.
With less than a fortnight before their departure the team was rocked with the news that striker Sandy Tahiri will not be traveling with them. Tahiri was ruled out of the team on medical grounds.
Ms. Tahiri has now been replaced by U-17 player and Junior Flamingo midfielder, Sally Saeni who has very little time to adjust to the striking position.
However, Head Coach Timothy Inifiri, has placed his confidence in Saeni saying that she has performed well in the friendly matches between the national team and the Honiara Select and was the first player to come to mind when Tahiri was dropped.
The team will continue with its normal training program while in camp. The date for their departure is Sunday 26th September, 2010.
