Solomon Islands national team starts the journey to the FIFA World Cup 2022 OFC Preliminary tournament in Qatar. The 25-man squad and five officials will camp in Brisbane for two weeks and play three international friendlies before continuing the trip to Doha.
National team coach Felipe Vega-Arango highlighted in a pre-departure interview that the warmup matches in Australia are positive for the team as the players will get much-needed game time against professional players after months of training in Honiara.
The Spaniard who led the national team into the final stages of the previous World Cup qualifiers believes that being ranked second in the region makes the team set its target of reaching the final and have a chance to qualify for the intercontinental play-off.
