The Solomon Islands national futsal team, Kurukuru, began the PacificAus Sports Futsal Series 2024 with a rather impressive performance, despite narrowly losing 1-2 to the visiting Australian national futsal team, Futsalroos, in the opening clash for the first time at the Friendship Hall.
Kurukuru Interim Head Coach Dickson Kadau, was satisfied with the team’s performance, especially against such a formidable Futsalroos side.
“Australia is just too good, well-drilled with their movements and transitioning,” Kadau complimented the visitors.

“A contest like this is what we wanted to build a young side and see how we can improve and have our players taste such a competitive level.”
Futsalroos capitalized on their early chances in the match through Daniel Fornito, who eventually got a brace before Kurukuru responded with a set piece from Raphael Le’ai’s sublime strike to the far corner.
With a goal advantage at the break, the second period was more intense as both sides continued to search for an opening – leaving goalless in the second period to full-time.
“We will continue to work on our play and look forward to an even better challenge in the remainder of the series,” says Kadau.
The second match of the series will take place on Friday, February 23rd at 18:00 at the Friendship Hall.
The PacificAus Sports Futsal Series is made possible through the PacificAus Sports Program, which is an initiative of the Australian Government that creates new opportunities for Pacific and Australian athletes to play, grow, and train together, and bring our countries closer together through sport.
Tickets for the series will be available for purchase from SIFF at the SIFF Academy HQ and Palm Sugar, Art Gallery for only $50 (across the board) for each match.
