We are preparing well – Eddie Marahare

Eddie Marahare, the head coach for the Solomon Islands national U-23 team, Solympic is confident that his side is well prepared for the OFC Men’s Olympic Qualifier next month in New Zealand.

The focus now is still on training taking the next step since the squad was trimmed and into the tactical training phase, following the announcement of a final 22-man squad.

“We got time,” Marahare told SIFF Media.

“Now we focus on our tactical aspects on how we wanted to play and we got at least less than six weeks to go before the competition.

“I believe the players are the best in the age category and with the experience playing at the highest level in the country – the Telekom S-League (TSL).

Solomon Islands are placed in Group B alongside Vanuatu, Samoa, and Tonga.

“We will take on Vanuatu in our opening match and we are sure Vanuatu will be the toughest opponent in the group but we have to be focused and take one game at a time,” says Marahare.

The winners and runners-up of each group will progress to the semi-finals on Wednesday, August 6 at North Harbour Stadium at 3 pm and 7 pm NZT with the final to be played at North Harbour Stadium on Saturday, September 9 at 7 pm NZT.

He then expressed his determination to play well and reach the knockout stages and qualify for an Olympic spot in Paris, France next year.
