We are here to compete: Omokirio

Solomon Islands national beach soccer, Bilikiki head coach Gideon Omokirio maintains that the team has been preparing and focused to compete to their best at the OFC Beach Soccer Nations Cup 2023 in Tahiti.

Speaking to OFC Media on the eve of their opener against Fiji tomorrow, Wednesday 23rd August, the former Bilikiki captain is confident with his new-look squad.

“I’m excited. It’s an opportunity for us to come here (Tahiti) to participate and compete,” Omokirio said.

“We have a good mixture of experience in the current squad which we aim to build from and a chance to showcase ourselves doing our best at this competition.

Omokirio downplays the pressure the current Champions and host Tahiti and other countries posed, but focuses on what his boys have in store to perform.

“We know what it’s like to go up against a side like Tahiti and the other countries and we’ve been talking about this before heading here for the competition,” Omokirio told OFC Media.

“It’s going to be tough but I believe we have prepared well for this challenge and we respect our opponents.

He said that it’s an opportunity to develop and bring to the scene new talents, the likes of Thomas Amasia, Ben Basi, and John Junior Iro.

“We are complimenting each other in the team – technically and physically we will perform. With these new players, they will carry on from what they will experience during this competition and continue with the development of the code in our country for the years to come and bringing back the top status in the region.

Bilikiki will take on Fiji tomorrow 11:30AM (Solomon Islands time).
