UK supporting women’s football through English FA donations

The British High Commission in Solomon Islands continue its support towards the national women’s team through its sports diplomacy program.

Today (19/12/2023), High Commissioner Tom Coward made a brief handover of training kits and balls that were accredited through the English Football Association (FA) in supporting the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF).

National women’s team captain Ileen Pegi and Lisa Solo are recipients of the programme that aims to empower and bring inspiration to women’s football by attending the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia to learn and witness first-hand in training camp with the England national women’s team – the Lioness.

“These two women leaders are an inspiration to others,” H.E Coward said.

“And with this equipment supported through the English FA, we hope it will be a great support to the women’s football team and the federation in taking the game to the next level.

He made assured that this is a beginning of a bond partnership between SIFF and the English FA through the British High Commission in Solomon Islands.

“We hope that through this friendship it will continue the development and lift the women’s game here in the country.

Items delivered include Dri-FIT training kits and balls donated by the English FA.

“These uniforms are suitable for humid weather when in training,” says H.E Coward.

SIFF Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Leonard Paia thanked the High Commissioner saying that the support is timely as the women’s team will start preparations for the OFC Women’s Olympic Qualifiers next year in February.

“Through these donations its timely and it will boost the team’s preparations, thus, on behalf of the federation thank you so much for this kind gesture,” CEO Paia expresses.

Witnessing the brief handover is SIFF Executive Member Rose Paia, Head Coach Batram Suri and SIFF staff along with members of the British High Commission officer in Honiara.
