The Telekom S-League (TSL) is now in its eighth week of the 2023/2024 premier club campaign and has a month to go for the first round of competition.
Across the table, there is always something to fight for in each matchday. Waneagu United and Honiara City continue to maintain staying top of the pile following respective wins over the weekend.
Waneagu United had to come from behind to edge an impressive Southern United 2-1, while Honiara City thumped SOSA FC 3-1 to stay aloft on the current standings.
Defending Champions, Solomon Warriors again proved dominant against FC Juniper Tree. Despite a man down in the opening period, the Franco Ne’e side managed a comfortable 4-1 win to leapfrog KOSSA FC and Central Coast onto the third position with 16 points, and a catchup schedule against Central Coast in the coming week.
KOSSA FC also had to dig deep and come from behind to share points with Laugu United in a late drama from a stunning Alfie Aunga extra-time effort to make it 1-1 and cancels Benjamin Totori’s early first-half tap-in.
“It’s not the best performance and how we wanted, definitely we miss some of our key players who are with the national team but the good thing is we managed the draw today (Saturday) and we’re happy with it,” KOSSA FC head coach Eddie Marahare said in a post-match interview.
“We hope to be back as a full team next week and putting together our usual line-up.
He said going forward the aim is to get maximum points in their upcoming matches.
“That is the important thing we have to focus on for the remainder of the first round.
Likewise, Laugu United the draw puts them trailing by two points behind Southern United on 10 points at the bottom four.
“I’m happy with the boys, they’ve done what we have in plan for the match, and it’s obvious even though some part of our game may be compliance we are a bit off track but the most important thing is that when we need to look after a goal advantage and the next part is going to secure the goal,” Laugu United coach Paul Kakai Jr admits.
