Solomon Islands U-23 national team coach Batram Suri says his boys need to be lethal in front of goal despite an opening 6-0 thrashing of American Samoa at OFC Olympic qualifiers in Suva today.
The Solympics scored four unanswered goals in the first half through Augustine Waita, Darold Kakasi, and Patrick Taroga.
American Samoa set up a defensive wall in the second half knowing very well the Solympics will try to score more goals.
The front three of Waita, Darold and Adrian Mara missed some clear cut chances despite the second-half double by Mara and Waita.
Suri was critical in his post-match remarks stating his attacking players need to be more clinical in their remaining matches.
“Overall, the game was good but we need to score all the easy chances created,” he said.
“This is what we need to improve on. We have to score all opportunities in the attacking half of the pitch.
“If we scored all chances it could have been 13 nil.”
The former Solomon Islands iconic forward added that there were positives displayed against the American Samoans.
“There are some positives we could get from the game. I am pleased with the speed of the boys, management of the shape of the team and combination play of the team,” he insisted.
Solomon Islands will take on Samoa in both team’s second Group A match on Tuesday 24 September at ANZ Stadium at noon in Suva, Fiji.
