The Solomon Islands U16 Women’s national team will face hosts Fiji on Thursday in a bid for 5th place at the OFC U16 Women’s Championship.
After an inspiring run in the group stage under head coach Patrick Miniti, the young side aims to finish the tournament on a high.
Miniti’s squad finished third in a competitive Group B, trailing only New Zealand and New Caledonia.
Their campaign began with a 2-0 victory over Tahiti, followed by a tight 1-2 loss to New Caledonia.
The side then showcased determination, pushing powerhouse New Zealand to the limit in a narrow 0-1 defeat.

Reflecting on his team’s progress, Coach Miniti praised their efforts: “The development of this squad has been remarkable. We’re witnessing important strides in the growth of women’s football at the youth level.”
The clash with Fiji offers a chance for the Solomon Islands to establish themselves on the regional stage further.
