Solomon Islands coach Felipe Vega-Arango urged his players to be ready for tough match against a very well-drilled New Caledonia side in the Group B clash tomorrow at the MSG Prime Minister’s Cup 2022 at Korman Stadium in Port Vila, Vanuatu.
The national team has six days to prepare for the opening match and the Spaniard is optimistic the lads are set to compete against New Caledonia who are facing a do-or-die situation after their matchday one defeat at the hands of Fiji.
Felipe Vega said New Caledonia played well against the Bula boys and they will want to win this match to have a chance of progressing into the semi-finals.
“The game against New Caledonia won’t be easy, we are going to compete hard and for New Caledonia, it’s a final because for them it’s a must-win situation and it will be a tough game, we need to compete, concentrate, focus and follow the plan that we have,” coach Felipe said.
Solomon Islands beat New Caledonia 1-0 in both country’s first Melanesian encounter in 1988 and New Caledonia won the recent meeting 2-0 at the 2019 Pacific Games in Men’s Football.
Meanwhile, Vanuatu and Vanuatu development team will start the proceedings at 15:00 for Matchday two of the MSG Prime Minister’s Cup 2022 at Korman Stadium before Solomon Islands clash with the Francophone Melanesians at 18:00 local time.
