The Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) hosted a four-day OFC Goalkeeping C License workshop for the first time from Monday, July 22 to Thursday, July 25, at the SIFF Headquarters and Technical Center.
This significant event gathered 17 (13 male, 4 females) Goalkeeper Development Officers from OFC Member Associations (MAs) including Samoa, Vanuatu, Fiji, and the Cook Islands.
The workshop is part of the OFC Goalkeeping Department’s annual C License initiative, which aims to extend its reach to MAs outside New Zealand and the commitment of the SIFF Goalkeeping Development Department to nurturing goalkeeping talent and expertise is evident through their hosting of this event.
The course was facilitated by a trio of experienced goalkeeping professionals: Former English Professional and OFC Coach Educator Chris Marsh, and Former New Zealand All Whites Goalkeeper and OFC Development Officer James Bannatyne, and National Team Goalkeeper and Development Officer Philip Mango.
Their expertise and guidance were instrumental in the workshop’s success, paving the way for the development of goalkeeping talent in the region.
“Having goalkeeping as the first OFC event in Honiara is a privilege for us,” said OFC Goalkeeping Development Officer James Bannatyne.
“Over the four days, the participants demonstrated their capability and commitment, and OFC looks forward to continuing to support them in achieving their C License.”
This landmark event underscores the growing importance of specialized training within the Oceania football community and also promises a bright future for goalkeeping in the Solomon Islands and beyond.
