The Solomon Islands national women’s team head coach, Batram Suri, remains composed ahead of their opening match tomorrow against Papua New Guinea (PNG) in the OFC Women’s Olympics Football Tournament – Oceania Qualifiers.

The match will take place on Wednesday, February 7th, at 1 pm (local time) at the FFS Football Stadium in Samoa.

In a pre-tournament press conference, Suri stated that the team’s focus is to compete.

He also mentioned that they are aware that the match against PNG will not be an easy challenge, but they will be ready for it.

PNG is considered one of the favorites in the competition, following their gold medal success at the XVII Pacific Games last year.

Solomon Islands, however, is confident that they will be at their best during the match. Suri has put together a young team, including former national youth players, to gain exposure at the senior level.

He believes that these young players will lead the next generation of the team and that having them experience competitiveness will help them set the standard through what they will be learning.

Solomon Islands will also play against American Samoa and Fiji in the remainder of their Group A matches.
