The Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) in partnership with the Solomon Islands Government (SIG) through the responsible Ministry of Home Affairs officially opened and commissioned the Aligegeo Sports Facility refurbishment project to Malaita Football Association (MFA) and the Malaita Provincial Government in Auki this week.
In attendance was SIFF President Donald Marahare who said that the delivery of the facilities was nothing without the timely intervention by the SIG collaborating with SIFF and the ongoing commitment and passion to the provincial government and football association in terms of support through the game.

“It’s an outcome of mutual understanding and close collaboration that existed between SIFF and SIG under the leadership of the former SIFF executive. And I want to state for the record SIFF’s ongoing commitment,” Marahare stated.
SIFF’s involvement in the facilities improvement goes way back to 2008 when the Aligegeo field was transferred to SIFF and was initially upgraded to using funds under OFC Win in Oceania Programme.
It involves the initial construction of the dressing room and administration block/grandstand combo structure and the pitch.

SIFF President acknowledges the Ministry of Home Affairs for its vision to ensure that the level of the facilities is of a higher standard.
He highlighted that going forward SIFF is planning to re-do the field and complete the perimeter fencing as part of the federation’s Strategic Plan 2023-2026 for the implementation of infrastructure projects at the national and provincial level.
“SIFF will continue to liaise with MFA as well as the Malaita Provincial Government to provide unwavering support ensuring the new projects will be delivered successfully.
Marahare also acknowledges Homes Construction Company Ltd for the successful delivery of the project.
