“However, despite the challenges faced, I am pleased to highlight the progress the federation has done with regard to football development in the country. The year began with the sending-off of our national futsal world cup team, the “Kurukuru” to Europe for a month’s camp in Poland and Croatia before joining the world’s bests at the Lithuania Futsal World Cup competition.
“Women’s football has grown from strength to strength as we witnessed the second year of the women’s premier league in action. Thanks to Solomon Rice Company for their sponsorship and partnership in this very exciting project,” he stated.
The Football boss stressed that the highlight of 2021 is the launch and rollout of the Iumi Play Grassroot Development programme.
“The roll-out of our flagship grassroots football program called the “Iumi Play Program” targeting age groups from 7 years to 12 years old for both boys and girls and covering 50 constituencies throughout the whole country is the highlight of the year.
“The future of our football is indeed embedded in how much we invest in this age group and the support that we have from our key stakeholders. I wish to thank our major sponsor – “Solomon Power” for stepping in to fill this important gap to make things happen.
“I wish to conclude by thanking FIFA and OFC for all their unwavering support during this challenging year. Your support has assisted us to keep going despite all odds. Moreover, to our local partners and supporters for believing in the power of football and the positive impacts that it can bring to our local communities, and the unity that football provides to our nation in times of calamity.
“The government of the day, your strong support and commitment to football development have truly given my executive and administration that extra urge and strength to keep going. We have done it together and let’s celebrate another successful year while we look ahead for more work and improvements in the years ahead,” Lai stated in his remarks to Congress.
